News has been filtering out about Facebook confirming tests of some new email marketing tools for small business pages. Here’s what we know:

  • it was in beta testing over the summer of 2020, a small number of Facebook Business Users were given access to the new email marketing tool
  • the platform will follow GDPR rules – it will follow email privacy regulations by instructing users to only send marketing emails to contacts who sign up for them
  • you won’t be able to build email lists from your facebook contacts – people will need to have subscribed first
  • it won’t be as fancy as other email automation platforms on the market

What does resonate is that facebook’s approach is very much in line with the other email marketing platform leaders i.e. capturing the reader’s attention, providing valuable content to subscribers and respecting privacy.
